A Guide to Effective Link Building

It is now an open secret that the quality back links play an important role in deriving organic traffic to a website through keyword based search engine results. However, it is said that a few high quality links are far better than thousands of irrelevant low quality links. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to understand the DOs and DONTs of link building to avoid wastage of resources and time.

Following are important tips related to back linking:

Links should be coming from relevant site. For example, if the subject of your site is Health and you create an inbound link form a webpage whose subject is “Online money making’ then this is certainly a low quality link which can even negatively affect your SEO efforts.

Pay due attention to the anchor text. Anchor text is the text which you hyperlink to your own web address. For an example if your run a site with subject “Innovative ideas to Make Money”, the appropriate anchor text can be, “Make Money”, “Make Cash”. Hence the anchor text should be relevant to your website subject.

Try to build bank links from those websites which have been indexed by Google and have nice page rank. Link from a site which has not been indexed by Google is not worth the effort.

Avoid linking through link dump sites. These are the sites which are just been created to provide the back links. As a bench mark don’t link form a page which already has 25 or more outgoing links.

For directory submissions, consider the page rank and popularity of directory and ensure to submit your website in proper category.

Also pay due attention to on page optimization to make your page search engine friendly.

Avoid posting your links to sites which load very slowly and have heavy flash banner advertising on them

Purchasing back links is not a very good idea as a sudden increase in back links is not much welcomed by Google, instead back links created and indexed gradually are more effective.
